This magical print from Andra Samelson renders the Buddha as an ephemeral constellation in the sky, mapping the contours of his form with dotted lines. By evoking images of starlight and night skies the artist connects the image of the Buddha to the great physical power and beauty of the natural world.
Andra says her recurrent themes explore the relationship of microcosm and macrocosm, the celestial and terrestrial. Emphasizing the indivisibility of inner and outer space, the images conjure the Buddha on both a vast and an intimate scale, allowing us to connect with a being that was both deeply human and cosmic in nature.
