Buddhadharma – The Practitioner's Guide Spring 2022
The Spring 2022 issue of Buddhadharma-The Practitioner's Guide
The spring issue of Buddhadharma goes to the heart of the bodhisattva path with six articles, each one a teaching on one of the paramitas, or perfections. Nikki Mirgahafori opens with the first paramita of dana, or generosity, said by some to be the foundation of Buddhism itself. Second is sila, the paramita of ethical conduct, unpacked in all its complexity by Norman Fischer. Ejo McMullen takes up virya, or effort, and the ways in which we hold back when we could be going all in. The fourth paramita is ksanti; Sister Clear Grace Dayananda shares her own journey of practicing endurance or patience. Jan Willis guides us through dhyana, or meditation, which is presented in Tibetan art as an actual path, complete with elephants (the mind) and monkeys (distraction). And the issue closes with a teaching by Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche on the perfection of prajna, or wisdom.
