"Dharma Wheel" Drop Earrings in Sterling Silver
Re-stocking in progress. Orders placed will be shipped on February 9th.
The dharma wheel in these hand-made drop earrings symbolizes the teaching of Buddha, spiritual values, wealth, love, and liberation. The dharmachakra, as it's known in Sanskrit, is one of the oldest symbols of Buddhism and one of the Eight Auspicious Symbols.
A dharma wheel is made up of three main parts - the hub, the rim, and the spokes. The wheel has vast and profound meaning, here then is a very brief guide to the wheel's symbolism:
The circle - represents the perfection of the dharma, the Buddha's teaching.
The rim - represents meditative concentration and mindfulness.
The hub - represents moral discipline. The three swirls at the center of the hub represent the Three Jewels--buddha, dharma, sangha.
The eight spokes also represent the Eightfold Path of:
- right understanding
- right speech
- right livelihood
- right concentration
- right mindfulness
- right effort
- right action
- right intention
Jeweler Simon Day makes these earrings himself, by hand in sterling 925 silver.
For nearly 20 years Simon received training in traditional Tibetan Buddhist art and aesthetics from his teacher and several other Tibetan Buddhist teachers for whom he made special pieces. Since 1997 he has been making jewelry for Buddhists around the world.
